New laws to improve a tenants rights
Those in rented accommodation will shortly be able to take legal action against landlords who do not maintain properties in a fit for purpose condition.
Tenants will be able to bypass local councils and go straight to court, even claiming compensation.
This maybe because a landlord fails to fix or replace broken items such as a boiler, shower, toilet or a window for example. Other reasons might be damp issues, water supply and drainage as well as general lack of repair.
