HS2
A new report has found that the £50 billion budget for HS2 could have been spent more wisely on other lines. That also includes the electrification of the Midland mainline travelling through Nottingham to London. Also suggested was the reopening of the Whitacre Link between Nottingham and Birmingham.
The Department for Transport insists that HS2 will free up thousands of seats on other lines and bring billions of pounds to the Midlands and the North. The DoT also said that it was not a choice between HS2 and other rail links but that both require investment and HS2 will provide the platform for other new railways in the north in the future.
