Government parking review
The findings of a Government inquiry could ban parking vehicles on the pavement in England. The Transport Select Committee are considering pavement parking and how it forces pedestrians onto the road when their path is blocked by cars. Mothers forced to take their child in a pram and another toddler whose hand she is holding is a sight we have all seen. Wheelchair users, the elderly or infirm.
Not so obvious to most of us is the damage to kerbs and pavements and thus repair bills that councils have to deal with. Money that could be spent elsewhere (potholes in roads for example)
Some drivers on narrow roads of course put 2 wheels on the pavement to allow access for emergency vehicles for example. If any ban is to be rolled out on a street by street basis then a lot of time and money will have to be spent reviewing and implementing and enforcing each individual road in our towns and cities.
