Flood Spending for Burton Joyce

Residents in Burton Joyce are set to benefit from over £50,000 of investment to help protect homes and businesses from flooding.
Flooding in recent months brought disruption to the village after intense rainfall resulted in surface water flooding with drainage systems overwhelmed.
Nottinghamshire County Council’s Flood Risk Management Team is now leading on possible mitigation measures.
Following a feasibility study, a scheme to install natural flood management measures in carefully selected areas within the upper catchment of the Crock Beck is now planned thanks to part funding from the county council’s Green Investment Fund.
The measures will help restore the natural functions of the Beck to temporarily capture and hold back water running off land during times of heavy rain, releasing it slowly after the rain has passed.
Leaky Barriers will be installed which let low water flows pass unimpeded and hold water back during higher flows and up to 250 native tree species will be planted to improve the infiltration of rain into the soil, helping to reduce overland flow of water.

These include plans for 70 new adult trees to be planted on the highway; a new green roofed education shelter at Cotgrave Country Park to provide an educational space for local schools, community groups and volunteers; and a new smart cycle storage facility at Mansfield Bus Station to support the growing demand for active travel for the first and last mile of passengers’ journeys.
