Council saves money and our enviroment
Excellent way of saving money and the environment by making vehicles last a reasonable length of time. After all far more damage is made to the environment building new vehicles than will come out the exhaust of present vehicles. The vehicle has been refurbished at a cost of £28,000 compared to £168,000 for the cost of a new vehicle. The refurbishments will prolong the life of the vehicles by an additional four to five years, which will see them collect around 1.5 million bins.

The vehicles were refurbished by Dennis Eagle based in Aldridge West Midlands.

Refurbishing vehicles makes sound economic sense and the Council has made savings in the region of £500,000 over a five year period which represents excellent value for money” said Councillor Shane Easom, Chair of the Leisure and Environment Committee.
The Council currently has 18 refuse vehicles which collect approximately 37,000 tonnes of waste and recycled materials every year across the Borough.
