Author's thoughts on the race to build along the river
The view along the Trent is changing. Places of work are being demolished to build homes. Your opinion on this may differ to others. For our selves we see the slow march of demolition and new build apartments getting bigger and bigger on our horizon. We will ourselves be forced to move in the future to make way for more apartments. This author has been saying for 20 years that “They keep knocking down commercial buildings to construct homes, soon no one will have any where to work!”
And now we find there is a MASSIVE shortage of industrial/ storage type warehouses and smaller units. This does effect all of us. Moving house? Need storage? Prepare to pay through the teeth as demand has out run supply. The rents now being charged on commercial properties means the items you buy that are being stored in them, will cost more to cover the high rents and utilities too for that matter.
Yes, build homes but we MUST build commercial properties too. We cannot all work from a laptop and headset at home after all.
Or do we re think the idea of knocking down perfectly usable premises for what really is big business greed for a few.
